Michelle Garcia Winner—founder of the Social Thinking Methodology—explores the ways in which our neurology and life experiences combine to shape our world lens, including our racial biases. Using the COVID-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement as a backdrop, Michelle directly addresses the challenges of being both black and having social learning challenges, such as ADHD. Too often, interventionists are quick to dismiss a child’s learning problems because their personal racial bias frames the child as a simple “behavior problem. Viewers are asked to consider the power of the social mind to value others, form our character, and then make choices through the use of meta-cognitive strategies to create a caring community for all.
